Welcome to the 2011 workshop on Emerging Opportunities in Nanostructured Semiconductors (EONS 2011)!
The field of narrow-gap semiconductors and nanostructured semiconductors is
undergoing a profound transformation with many new discoveries and improved understanding of their complex and fascinating properties. The fields that are impacted
by these developments are diverse, from fundamental science, to energy generation and novel states of matter, and the pace at time seems frenetic.
The purpose of the workshop is to bring leaders engaged in cutting edge research
in the field of energy conversion and the physics of narrow gap semiconductors
to overview recent developments and discuss future directions and opportunities.
The workshop themes include bulk, film and nanostructured materials and devices (e.g., thermoelectrics, photovoltaics) as well as novel physics (e.g., topological insulators) and novel characterization techniques for semiconductors. There will be plenty opportunities
for stimulating interactions and thought provoking discussions during EONS 2011.
We look forward to seeing you during June 2-3, 2011, at Northwestern University!
